The Food Additives Course, sponsored under the Public Training Institute Instructors’ Competency Empowerment Initiative (IMPAK) 2026, was successfully held with the participation of 10 instructors from the Fisheries Academy of Malaysia (APM). Organized in collaboration with MARDI, the course aimed to provide instructors with exposure to the application of food additives, as well as food industry safety and compliance aspects.
The course curriculum encompassed an introduction to food additives, methods of additive application and calculation, an introduction to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), food additive labeling, and discussions on halal and haram considerations regarding food additive usage. In addition to theoretical sessions, participants underwent practical hands-on training on the application of additives in food and beverage processing.
This course is expected to enhance the instructors’ knowledge and competency in food processing, aligning with current industry demands.
Our sincere gratitude is extended to MARDI for their cooperation and knowledge sharing throughout the course. Appreciation is also conveyed to JAKIM for sharing insights on halal aspects, as well as guidelines on food additive usage in accordance with Shariah standards and current regulations.
