Malaysian Skills Certificate Program Capture Fisheries Operations LEVEL 3

The Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 in Capture Fisheries Operations is a skills training program offered at the Fisheries Academy of Malaysia (APM), an Accredited Centre (PB) under the governance of the Agricultural Training Capacity Development Division (BPKLP), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM). Its primary objective is to produce a skilled workforce for the capture fisheries sector.

The program is delivered through an integrated approach comprising 30% theoretical learning and 70% practical training, ensuring that trainees not only grasp fundamental concepts but also demonstrate high competency in executing field operations.

Trainees undertake core modules in capture fisheries operations, including the operation of fishing nets, traps, and longlines, as well as marine engine maintenance, vessel navigation, and vessel maintenance skills. Additionally, compulsory subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Science for Agriculture, Computing for Agriculture, and Co-Abilities modules are included. Mandatory Industrial Training is incorporated to provide direct exposure to real-world industry practices.

  • PLO 1:

    Articulate a systematic knowledge and understanding of information, facts, principles, concepts, and theories within the field of capture fisheries.

    Apply knowledge and practical skills to solve foreseeable problems within the field of capture fisheries.

  • PLO 3:

    Demonstrate practical skills using appropriate tools, methods, and procedures under supervision within the field of capture fisheries.

  • PLO 4:

    Interact effectively, both independently and as a collaborative team member, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.

  • PLO 5:

    Communicate information and ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, utilizing appropriate language and methods.

  • PLO 6:

    Utilize various digital applications to support learning, as well as to source and process data relevant to the field of capture fisheries.

  • PLO 7:

    Demonstrate the ability to utilize and interpret both routine and complex numerical data pertinent to the field of capture fisheries.

  • PLO 8:

    Exhibit effective leadership qualities and the ability to function competently, both independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • PLO 9:

Training Period

The training period for this program is 2 years (80 weeks) with a total of 60 credit hours.
